The Bangladesh Army is constructing a new jetty near the Kanchan Bridge in Pitalgonj to improve the safe transportation of Jet A-1 fuel to the Kurmitola Aviation Depot (KAD). The new plan involves transporting Jet A-1 via the Sitalakhya River, with storage facilities set up at a new depot in Pitalgonj. A dedicated underground pipeline will be used to transfer Jet A-1 from the Pitalgonj depot to KAD, connecting existing and new tanks.
A bathymetric survey will be conducted during the initial planning phase to assess the navigational channel and river conditions, ensuring safe and efficient fuel transportation operations.
The study aims to support the design of a new jetty at Pitalgonj near the Kanchan Bridge by conducting a detailed bathymetric survey and hydrological analysis.
The proposed Pitalganj Jetty is situated approximately 0.5 kilometers downstream from the Kanchan Bridge on the Shitalakhya River, which is part of the intricate river network surrounding Dhaka city and plays a significant role in the regional waterway system. The river system passes under key infrastructure points such as the Kanchpur and Muktarpur bridges and merges with other major rivers before joining the Meghna River.
